SEPLAA Foundation Founder Mrs. Ammara Farooq Malik had been advocating for bone marrow transplant facilities in Lahore with Dr. Tahir Shamsi and Chughtai’s lab since 2010. In 2016, the first private sector bone marrow transplant facility was started in 2016.
In 2017, the first public sector bone marrow transplant facility was also inaugurated in the Children’s Hospital Lahore, marking a great achievement for the SEPLAA Foundation and all families affected by blood disorders in Punjab.
In August 2017, Dr. Tahir Shamsi, the pioneer of BMT procedures in Pakistan, acknowledged the efforts of Mrs. Ammara Malik to help start the first bone marrow transplant facility in Lahore.
In October 2017, Dr. Tahir Shamsi, visited the SEPLAA Foundation HQ where he thanked Mrs. Ammara Farooq Malik for her advocacy efforts and congratulated her for the start of the public sector BMT facility.

History:
The SEPLAA Centre for Blood Disorders was an online forum of the SEPLAA Foundation which was officially inaugurated on the 7th of May, 2011 marking the International Thalassemia Day. It was operational from 2011-2018 until we were able to successfully advocate for the start of the first public sector bone marrow transplant centre in the Children’s Hospital in Lahore.
The online Centre has provided services in the following:
1. Genetic Counselling.
2. Bone Marow Transpalnt Information Services. (Local in Pakistan and international.)
3. Referring patients abroad, with complicated cases for Bone Marrow Transplants.
3. Transfusion Information Services for Lahore.
The SEPLAA Foundation initiated several health advocacy campaigns and awareness sessions from 2009 to 2017.
In 2018, Mrs. Ammara Farooq Malik was shortlisted for the Fatima Jinnah Award for ‘Woman of the Year’ for her advocacy efforts to help start the first public sector BMT facility. However, due to national elections, the award ceremony was cancelled.
SEPLAA Foundation continues to work for the betterment of our future generations in various projects.
