Seminar for underprivileged youth held with Sui Taankay

Subject: Seminar on Social Entrepreneurship and Peace Building for Underprivileged Youth

Seminar report:

The seminar was conducted in a small college in Bahawalpur. At first the students weren’t aware of the term Entrepreneurship since they were young students (intermediate level) belonging from remote areas of South Punjab.

The team explained the concept of Social entrepreneurship very thoroughly. After that the topic of peace building was introduced which was somewhat common to them. The students were very much interested in learning about the relationship between Entrepreneurship and peace building and how they can build peace within the society.

The team explained the topic to them thoroughly and gave them examples of establishing a business so as to build peace and work for the good of the society. After the lecture the students were given an activity to participate in.

The team divided the classes into groups of 4 with 3 individuals in each group. Two of the group members were asked to sell a beauty product to the third member of the group. The team got a very good response from them and the students were very excited to perform this activity.

After the activity session the team explained all the concepts with more examples, motivating them to work for themselves for the betterment of the society. So of the examples included:

  • Opening up a tuition center
  • Embroidery school
  • Sell homemade pickles and jams

Then the students were motivated by a short story about a student just like them who started a farming a business and now has two big investors within the US supporting his farming business within the country.

The team also told the students about their own project called “Sui Taankay” and its purpose and informed them they can be hired as employees to the project if the project is a success.

In the end the students were asked to give feedback about the session and how it has motivated them. The team got a very good feedback from them and the students were fully motivated to work.
