On 4th July, 2020, Dr. Maria Zulfiqar invited Minister for School Education, Dr. Murad Raas, SEPLAA Foundation Founder and lawyer, Mrs. Ammara Farooq Malik; educationalist Ms. Farzana Shahid and social worker Ms. Nayab Jan, on her talk show to discuss the sexual harassment allegations at a private school in Lahore.
During the show, Dr. Murad Raas announced that the first draft of the new laws/ amendments would be available by Tuesday 7th July, 2020. Mrs. Ammara Malik pointed out the various legal ramifications of not having the requisite law in place. The SEPLAA Foundation had already sent out brief recommendations for safe schools in Punjab where the children would not become victims of sexual harassment.
During the media talk show, Minister for School Education, Mr. Murad Raas announced the various provisions which will be included in the new draft law. SEPLAA Foundation’s recommendations of involving parent boards/body in sexual harassment complaint redressal systems on school premises, was also announced to be part of the new draft law.
We are now awaiting to see the new draft law.
